Budgets and Finance II

This class will take a deeper look into key budget issues affecting counties.

Tim Berry and Angie Steeno of Crowe Howarth will tell us all about the maximum levy. They will give us a presentation on that will include:

1. The History of the Maximum Levy – how did it come about

2. How is the maximum levy calculated

3. What funds fall within the maximum levy and why

4. What is the growth quotient - does that mean the budget goes up that much?

5. "Take apart” a few pages from a 1782 Notice to show how the state calculates the figures

Jason Semler, a Partner at Umbaugh will bring those in attendance a new look at how LIT can impact the county budget. He will also discuss procedures, timelines and what facts a county council or LIT council must consider if they desire to reallocate LIT revenues. Jason will bring some insight on how the county can keep more of the LIT revenues before dispursing to the other units along with clarifications on the new LIT for correctional and rehabilitation facilities .
